On March 1st, Bank of Ireland (BOI) implemented an update that is causing SEPA credit transfers to fail when sent to payees with non-BOI bank accounts.
We have been advised that the issue has been resolved as of 5th of March 2025.
What’s Happening?
- SEPA files are still being accepted by BOI and passing their validation checks.
- Payments to BOI payees are being processed successfully.
- However, payments to non-BOI payees are failing due to a missing BIC (Bank Identifier Code) in the payee’s account details.
Why Is This an Issue?
BICs were removed as a mandatory requirement for EEA transfers in 2016, meaning they are not typically required for SEPA payments. Despite this, BOI’s update now appears to require them for non-BOI payees.
What Have We Done?
To help you avoid payment failures, we have implemented a fix that allows you to add BIC details for non-BOI payees:
- Directly in the payment file creation page
- Within employee payment details
Additionally, we have placed an alert on your Parolla landing page. We will keep this updated as BOI works to resolve the issue.
